Message from Jeff Ball, Ph.D - Executive and Clinical Director

Thank you for visiting our website. I've been a clinician, consultant, supervisor and professor for over 25 years, working both in the public sector at UCLA and the Veteran's Administration Hospital, and in the private sector as the Executive and Clinical Director of Bridges to Recovery, another local residential psychological facility, as well as maintaining a successful private practice. I've worked with many populations of patients, from autistic children to adults in various levels of distress, to the elderly. Some of my expertise has involved working with the seriously mentally ill (schizophrenic, schizoaffective, and bipolar), as well as with those with severe personality issues.

I've found that many patients have a difficult time with once or twice per week outpatient treatment, needing more consistent intervention and support. However, many of these patients are traumatized by inclusion with more disturbed individuals in psychiatric hospitals, which also tend to more heavily medicate their patients. Alternatives such as residential treatment facilities primarily treat substance abuse, utilize less experienced therapists, and place their emphasis on a more "spa-like" atmosphere rather than concentrating their resources on the treatment.

Jeff Ball, Ph.D.
Executive and Clinical Director

PCH has been specially designed to treat patients who are experiencing significant life difficulties but do not necessitate a psychiatric facility. We provide intensive individual and group psychotherapies, utilizing the latest in research-based and effective treatments. Further, while we provide psychiatric consultation, our philosophy is to prescribe as little medication as possible (and only when needed) to provide the best level of containment to maximize the effectiveness of our psychotherapeutic approach. And, while we are excellent diagnosticians, we do not believe in stigmatizing patients with psychiatric labels. Rather, our approach is to clarify the underlying issues and to focus upon the areas that are causing the individual difficulty. We aim to provide state-of-the-art treatment to facilitate the healing process. Our goal is to provide the best individualized treatment at a reasonable cost. We provide an intensive Treatment Program, as well as Day and Evening Programs five days per week. With our PCH Residence House, we offer a real-world setting in a home-like atmosphere in an upscale residential neighborhood on the Westside of Los Angeles. Our programs are designed for those transitioning from other programs, as well as for those who are local or visiting and desire to stay in their own living arrangement while receiving intensive treatment. Most importantly, we provide a warm and safe therapeutic environment for all of our Clients, and their healing and happiness is our priority.
