Expert on Mental Illness Reveals Her Own Fight

A very insightful article appeared today in the New York Times entitled “Expert on Mental Illness Reveals Her Own Fight.”  Marsha M. Linehan of the University of Washington is a pioneer in the field of Psychology who developed Dialectical Behavioral Therapy used in the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder and other psychological illnesses.  In this article, she describes her own struggles with mental illness, having been the recipient of heavy medication and electroconvulsive therapy at the age of 17.  She told her story for the first time last week in front of an audience at the Institute of Living in Hartford, Connecticut, the Hospital where she was first treated.
