A Montreal based circus and acrobat troupe that labels themselves Les 7 Doigts de la Main has put on a show called “PSY”. PSY refers to psychological or psychiatric. This youthful troupe of acrobats and jugglers act out theatrically different aspects of mental illness and psychotherapy. Intermixed between dangerous stunts and acrobatics, are choreographed narratives about the human psyche. As they describe it, “PSY travels through a shifting landscape of distorted visions, fading dreams and fractured memories. Insomnia, addiction, amnesia, paranoia, hypochondria, juggling, Chinese pole, German wheel, aerial rope, teeterboard. By juxtaposing these darker issues with invigorating and life-affirming language of circus arts, PSY brings out the humor, beauty, and commonality of these various neuroses, all the while celebrating the power of the individual to surmount their ailments and self-imposed restrictions, finding moments of strength, courage and joy while flying through the air.” Think of the troupe Les 7 Doigts de la Main as a younger, edgier Cirque du Soleil. They were founded in Montreal in 2002, and have toured the world offering their unique outlook on entertainment.
