Mike received his bachelor’s degree from David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, and worked for years in the finance and software world before making the decision to pivot to the mental health field. In active recovery since 1989, he has helped countless men explore and participate in their own recovery. He came to understand that being empathic, attuned, and listening acutely allowed him to connect, understand, and provide insight to those struggling with substance abuse and other issues. The fulfillment he received from this work led him to change careers and receive a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles.
Mike trained in psychodynamic therapy at The Maple Counseling Center, a premiere training site in Beverly Hills, CA. He also trained and volunteered at Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services for their suicide prevention hotline. Mike’s training, personal experience, and empathic approach was invaluable in his role as a group and individual therapist at a local treatment center offering residential, PHP, and IOP levels of care. In this capacity, Mike provided therapy to clients of the dual diagnosis track, working with substance abuse, mood disorders, trauma, relational issues, and more.
